4 years

Today is May 19th, 2011.  Four years ago today my husband and I went on our first date.  I had so much fun on that day and it is a day that I will never forget.  We made so many memories on just that one evening and it started a really spectacular ride.

On this ride, we've had both ups and downs.  I'm not going to lie and say that we've never had our moments when we just want to smack each other or that everything is always rosy, but I could count on my fingers the number of times we've had a real fight and the good times far outweigh the bad.  Through the past 4 years, we have gone through a lot of things that have made our relationship even stronger.  We have been through experiencing a parent with cancer, family fights and problems, friends abandoning us, emotional battles with us and between us, and of course him joining the Army.  But from those hardships has grown a glorious love and a friendship that will last forever, he is truly my best friend and I like it that way.

It's always hard being apart on days like these.  I know how women feel when their SO is deployed on holidays because I have only spent 1 holiday/anniversary/birthday with him since he joined the Army last September.  We had Christmas together and two days after Christmas, we got married.  It was the best Christmas I could have ever asked for, but I'm still missing all those other times when I wake up in the morning to realize it's a holiday and find that he's not lying next to me to celebrate with me.  We have spent Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, his birthday (the big 21!), Easter, and now our anniversary apart (not to mention he'll be missing my graduation ceremony too).  It is so difficult on days like these because it hurts so bad to realize that he's not there to share in the day of the holiday.

But... we manage.  We were still able to get each other gifts and we were able to talk a little earlier.  I got him a nice clipper set so he doesn't have to complain about going to the PX once a week for a haircut anymore. =P And he got me a nice big stack of books. =D   I'm so excited to delve into these military spouse books but I have to refrain until I at least finish one more term paper... lol
